How to Make Harvest Garland for the Birds
Celebrating the harvest is for everyone, even the birds. Creating a harvest garland with your children to decorate a tree with, and feed the birds is a very fun craft that gets more exciting as the birds devour it.
Popcorn GarlandSupplies: Tapestry Needle Thread Popped Popcorn Dried Fruit Cheerios, Fruit Loops (or other cereal with a hole in the center) Natural Peanut Butter
Cut the thread to the desired length, smaller lengths are easier to deal with and many of them together can still decorate a tree nicely. Knot the end of the string or thread one piece of dried fruit on, and tie the knot around that piece so it doesn’t slip off. Then begin stringing your treats in any desired pattern or no pattern at all.
String the finished garland on a tree that you can easily watch from inside the home. Once it is strung, dab a little peanut butter on the strand, as this is very attractive to many birds and is good for them. Just don’t be surprised if a few squirrels get in the act too.
For very little ones who might have trouble with a tapestry needle, purchase a plastic one that they can’t hurt themselves with, and use yarn and stick to cereal with a hole in the middle. These items are easier to handle and create basically the same effect.
